One of my absolutely favorite meals I had this year was from a halal cart in NYC. Earlier his week, @basicallyhalal brought me straight back there! Best of all, we live about 5 minutes away from it—so we will be visiting probably more often than is healthy 😂.

We started things off with the chicken shawarma platter over rice, and it came EXACTLY how you would find from one of those incredible halal carts in NYC—paired with tomato-cucumber salad, pickled turnips, Persian pickles, and then absolutely SMOTHERED with their incredible tahini and pom pom sauce.

Next up, we tried their steak outbreak fries. They’re basically the halal version of animal fries, and they are SO addicting! Once again, this thing comes completely covered in their signature halal and pom pom sauce. If you are going with a date, these are definitely big enough to share.

For the girls, we ordered the falafel roll. This came topped with Persian pickles, pickled turnips, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and tahini sauce. I was a little hesitant that this was going to be really dry because of the falafels on a roll, but it ended up being my favorite item we tried. Definitely the best falafel I’ve had in RVA and the surrounding area!

And finally we ended the night with their delicious baklava—one of my favorite desserts. It was really cold from being in the fridge, which was different from normal, but we really enjoyed it! So much so that we ate it all up before we could get any pictures of it 😬.

All in all, an amazing new restaurant that you should DEFINITELY go visit this weekend!

Pro tip: Order a Vimto soda to drink. You’ll thank me later 🙂
